NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Majors Festival - In the Spring, bands from all over the state perform and are critiqued and rated by trained judges.  Groups receive ratings of "Gold with Distinction", "Gold", "Silver", "Bronze" or "Certificate" according to the NYSSMA standards.  Our 5th grade band has participated in past years (see teacher for additional details).

NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival - In April, students state-wide perform solos or in ensembles to be adjudicated by a trained judge.  Solos range in difficulty from levels I-VI.  Levels I-IV can receive a maximum rating of 28 points (Outstanding).  Students performing Levels V-VI can receive a maximum of 100 points or choose to receive comments only.  Students that perform a Level VI solo have the chance to qualify for Area All-State and All-State Festivals (see teacher for further details).
